Vintage Claire McCardell jacket, ca. 1951. 100% ribbed wool in charcoal gray. Black button closure. Fully lined.

Mel’s Notes: There are so many things I love about his coat, and not just because it was designed by one of my favorites, Claire McCardell; for one, it has a thoroughly modern, bordering on avant garde silhouette - those huge pockets!!! It’s also made from Miron wool. As the ad I’ve included from a 1951 issue of Vogue magazine declares, it’s “the best wool you can put on your back.” The name for this luxurious woolen? Vertique.

Label: “Claire McCardell Clothes by Townley”

Condition: Excellent; some areas of wear to the black, silken lining and an almost invisible, tiny nip to the wool near the front hem. Condition Chart
